Color Guard

The award winning Northview Colorguard accompanies the marching band in the fall with all performances. This visible group provides visual effects for the band's pre-game and halftime performances. Guard rehearsals begin in mid-summer with additional rehearsals before and after school. The Colorguard is a unit of the marching band whose members are eligible for all trips and benefits available to the band. Colorguard is a great way to meet new people and be a part of a tradition of excellence at Northview.

Requirements for membership: no prior experience necessary, tryout in spring

Dues: camp and uniform fees, approx. $300.00

Northview's Guard Sponsor: Kelly Dickerson

NHS Winter Guard

Dear Northview Students & Parents,

Ms. Hannah Nelms, our expert guard instructor, is starting a competitive winter guard here at Northview! We are looking for members for this group.

What is Winter Guard?

Winter guard is a combination of the use of flags, sabers, mock rifles and other equipment as well as dance and other interpretive movements. It is very similar to the marching band color guard, but with a few key differences. They typically perform indoors with equipment/props/tarps to recorded music. Winter guards can be found across the country in high schools, middle schools and at the collegiate level, as well as operate independently from any school affiliation.

An example of a competitive winter guard group is in the attached video.

The inaugural winter guard of Northview HS will host its parent and student information meeting on Tuesday, October 29th at 6:30 pm in the band room. The winter guard is open to any Northview HS students (both male and female). Dance or color guard experience is helpful, but not required.

The winter guard will keep the same rehearsal schedule as the marching band did for the fall - Wednesday and Thursday from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm with one Saturday rehearsal. They will also compete in three weekend competition shows throughout the season.

Don't miss your opportunity to join this group!
