We are excited for another school year and looking forward to working with you all this year! Every few weeks, the counseling department will be sending a newsletter with information on upcoming events, grade-specific tasks, scholarship information, and more. This year, we will be sharing a monthly and semester-long calendar of events to help plan out your semester. Details regarding each event will be shared in these newsletters. 0-PERIOD SAT PREP COURSE
Looking for a great way to prepare for the SAT? Northview offers a SAT Prep Class based on Princeton Review’s SAT Prep Course. The course covers both the Verbal and the Math portions of the test. Not only does the class cover the fundamentals but also teaches strategies and techniques for answering questions
The course is taught by Northview High School teachers at Northview before first period (7:25 AM start time). The cost is $50.00 for the course. Students are expected to attend each day, regardless of when they take the SAT and students will receive a grade for the course, which will factor into their overall numeric average. Seat capacity is 30 students. Seats are limited and priority will be given to upperclassmen, followed by 10th grade, and finally 9th grade students.
If interested, complete the Fall 2026 0-Period Course Request form by Wednesday, August 12 here: Fall 2026 SAT Prep 0-Period Enrollment Interest Form – Fill out form. If accepted, you will receive an email with a link to pay for the class through OSP, with additional information regarding the start date, etc. the following week.

On Tuesday, August 25, NHS Counseling will be hosting an in-person 11th and 12th Grade Information Night starting at 6:00 PM. 11th grade parents/guardians will meet in the cafeteria and 12th grade will be in the theatre. Counselors will be discussing the following:

SENIOR INFORMATION
College Visits
Starting Monday, August 17, college representatives will begin coming on campus to speak with interested students. To see a list of colleges/universities and to register, visit SchooLinks (found in ClassLink). To attend, students must sign up ahead of time and will receive a SmartPass notification during the assigned date/time.
Senior Information Sheet
If you are applying to college/university that requires a counselor recommendation letter, you must complete a Senior Information Sheet found in SchooLinks no later than September 11.
SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION
United States Senate Youth Application
The 2027 U.S. Senate Youth Program application window is open from August 10 to September 30. High school juniors or seniors may apply provided they meet all program qualifications as outlined by the U.S. Senate Youth Program. The application, program criteria, and informational brochures are found on the Excellence Recognitions USSYP webpage at www.gadoe.org/USSYP. Applications are due by September 30 at 5:00 p.m.

September 2026
September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. According to the CDC, suicide is among the leading causes of death for people ages 10-66 and is the second leading cause of death for young people ages 10-14.
Despite being a leading cause of death, suicide it is preventable. During this month, our school will be drawing attention to the problem of suicide and advocating the prevention of this tragedy. We encourage our students and families to participate in Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. We will be sharing resources and activities throughout September to bring awareness to suicide prevention. The awareness generated this month has the potential to have an enormous impact on our school community, even the chance to save a life. Thank you for supporting this initiative and continuing the conversation at home with your students.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Class of 2027 Parents/Guardians Coffee w/ Counselors on September 9
If you have a student graduating this year, we would love for you to join us on Wednesday, September 9 at 9:00 AM in the media center. This is an opportunity for you to get your questions answered and have an informal conversation with the NHS counseling team. Wellness Week: September 14-18
This semester’s Wellness Week will be held September 14-18. This is a week filled with daily lunchtime activities promoting healthy minds, bodies, and habits for our students.
9th/10th Grade Information Night on September 16
On September 16, counselors will be offering a Class of 2029/2030 Information Night for families. This is open to all parents/guardians of students in grade 9 or 10. It will be held in the theater at 6:00 PM.
9th & 10th Grade Classroom Lesson: September 16-17
On September 16 and 17, counselors will be meeting with students during their ELA class to discuss graduation requirements, post-secondary opportunities, HOPE scholarship, tips to be successful in high school and more. In addition, counselors will be reviewing the Signs of Suicide full lesson (grade 9) and the Signs of Suicide refresher lesson (grade 10). If you would prefer your student not participate you will need to complete the attached opt-out form and have it turned into their counselor no later than Tuesday, September 15 (it can also be emailed back to us).

26-27 Senior Post-Secondary Plan Survey
Seniors, please take a few minutes to complete your Senior Post-Secondary Plan Survey in Schoolinks. This survey helps us better understand your plans after graduation, whether you are attending college, entering the workforce, joining the military, taking a gap year, or pursuing another pathway. Please complete the survey as soon as possible!
UGA Transcript Submissions ONLY
When applying to the University of Georgia students are strongly encouraged to submit their official high school transcript through GAfutures rather than self-reporting grades in the Common Application. For more information as to how the request would be made, how the GPA would be calculated using this transcript, and for a better understanding as to the why behind this request, students should visit: https://admissions.uga.edu/apply/first-year-applicants/first-year-criteria/gafutures-transcripts/.
For students attending Fulton County Schools, UGA also requires an additional copy of the student's unweighted transcript/GPA for the admissions review process. Students can download their unweighted transcript from the Student Portal by navigating to Documents > Unweighted Transcript. After submitting the application, students will receive a link through the UGA Application Portal where they can upload this document.
