Advanced Placement (AP) Curriculum
AP Course Placement Process
Placement into AP courses for core subject areas—math, science, language arts, and select social studies—is determined by your current teacher’s recommendation.
All placement decisions are based on published prerequisite grades, which can be found in the 2026–2027 Curriculum Guide on our Course Registration & Catalog page.
If you are interested in taking more than one AP course in the same subject area (doubling up), you must notify your current teacher so they can include both courses in their recommendation.
Example: If you would like to take both AP Biology and AP Environmental Science, you must inform your current science teacher.
AP Course Information
Detailed information about each AP course offered at Northview High School—including course descriptions and prerequisite requirements—is available on our Course Registration & Catalog page.
Before finalizing your course selections, you are encouraged to:
- Review the course catalog
- Watch teacher informational videos
- Talk directly with your current teacher
- Reach out to your school counselor with questions
AP Course Waivers
If you do not meet the prerequisite grade for an AP course:
- You must submit the online waiver form between March 23 – March 27
- Waivers will be reviewed
- Students who meet the prerequisite grade by the 9-week grading mark may be placed in the course
- Placement is subject to seat availability
AP Elective Courses
The following AP courses are considered electives:
- AP Computer Science Principles
- AP Computer Science A (if not currently enrolled in AP Computer Science Principles)
- AP Music Theory
- AP Art History
If you are not currently in a course where a teacher can recommend you, you must request these as electives on your Course Verification Form.
