Individual Counseling
Fulton County Schools Counseling and Support Services
Northview High School is proud to offer dedicated teachers and student support personnel. To help our community better understand our roles, we have outlined the key responsibilities of each member of our department.
School Counselors
School counselors serve primarily as college and career specialists. They work with all students to provide a comprehensive guidance program, ensuring students have the information and support needed to succeed in high school and transition to post-secondary opportunities. Their focus is on students’ academic, career, and social development.
School Social Worker
The school social worker helps remove barriers that may impact a student’s ability to succeed. They serve as a link between home and school and provide resources and support to families.
School Psychologist
The primary role of the school psychologist is assessment and identification of students who may be struggling academically, including determining eligibility and placement for special services. They also assist with evaluations and support SST, 504, and IEP decisions.
Signs of Suicide (SOS) - Signs of Suicide Prevention program is currently implemented in all Fulton County middle and high schools. The SOS program is the only youth suicide prevention program that has demonstrated an improvement in students’ knowledge and adaptive attitudes about suicide risk and depression, as well as a reduction in actual suicide attempts.

Student Safety and Crisis Response
While school counselors, social workers, and psychologists are not mental health therapists, Northview has a clear protocol for responding to students who may be in crisis.
If a student is identified as a danger to themselves or others:
- The student will be immediately escorted to a safe location and supervised by two adults at all times.
- Staff will begin the school’s crisis response protocol.
- Parents/guardians will be contacted immediately and asked to come to the school.
- School staff (social worker, psychologist, administrator, or counselor) will provide families with resources for outside support.
- Parents/guardians are expected to have their student evaluated by a licensed mental health professional.
- Confirmation of the evaluation and clearance to return must be shared with the school. Recommendations from the provider may be communicated to support the student upon return.
By Georgia law, all school staff are mandated reporters for any concerns related to student safety.
The Summit Counseling Center
Fulton County Schools partners with community mental health providers to offer on-campus services. At Northview, students may access on-site mental health support with parent/guardian consent.

Suicide Prevention Awareness
In the United States, suicide is the leading cause of death for young people ages 10-24. It is also one of the leading causes of preventable death. We lose approximately 130 young people in this age group to suicide each week. Four out of five teens who attempt suicide have given clear warning signs. That means that in 80% of these cases, we have an opportunity to intervene and possibly save an at-risk young person.
Fulton County Crisis Support
Text4HELP is a crisis support service available to all Fulton County high school students through a partnership with the Fulton County Board of Commissioners. Students can connect anonymously with a licensed mental health professional 24/7 for immediate support and referrals.
Fulton County Schools Tip Line
Students can provide an anonymous tip to school and district officials through the FCS Tip Line App or Website. Whether it is about bullying, a friend in need of counseling, or suspicious/illegal behavior.

During the month of September, we find ways to unite and promote suicide prevention and awareness. It is said that investment in suicide education, prevention, and research assists with decreasing the number of untimely deaths each year. Therefore, the time is now to ensure we are doing our part.
September 1-30 | Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
